Although I do love the waxwings, I am rather taken by the little redpoll too!  What a sweet little bird - and so distinctive. :)

Yes Benji. it is a beautiful bird, the Redpoll, I have only seen two in my garden, they are ground feeding birds, thats what prompted me to make the simple perch and scattered the bird seeds along the slabs, so hopefully it might bring along some other ground feeding birds, although the sparrows & starlings love it as well..

Soon they will run out of berries these Waxwings, keep getting them everyday for the last ten days.. not that i'm complaining  ;D I have seen four in my garden today, but probably lots more, as i don't spend all of my time at the window.. one landed on my new natural bird perch, six feet away from my camera, but before i snapped it, it flew to the honeysuckle bushes.. there I got it..

And this one showing its lovely wing feathers..

Then, of course we have the regulars.. The sparrow..

Thats all for now..

I thought the migration of the Waxwings was over, but one came to my garden late afternoon..

Then the rain came on, very heavy rain, and the poor wee bird got soaked..

I was quite happy with my new Manfrotto monopod, I tried it out on a waxwing I spotted near Voe, when I was going home from Lerwick..

Just an update, I got a call from Mark the county recorder, he told me a buzzard was seen at the south end of the island, and one seen on the westside, plus the one at Toft so it must be different birds..

And the bird pellet I found at Valayre was an Owls pellet.. so might be an Owl hanging around the conifers at Voxter..

I've never seen one either Lynne. although i was close to seeing one yesterday. they are relatively rare in shetland, not much chance of spotting one today, with this horrible weather..
