I took these pictures within the last week..

They are changing into their summer colours, so that means they will be hard to spot in the moor..

some are more brown than some.. there was 6 on one day and only one the next day..

The one wae the most brown was the one on its own..

I'll show 10 pictures in two posts..

Two days ago I went to Wester Quarf looking for the Great Grey Shrike, but could'nt find it..

While I was at centrel Shetland I thought I would travel to Sumburgh to see the Puffins in the south end of the island..

I got a few Puffin shots outside the Puffin camcorder, then I noticed a movement in the grass.. It was two Goldcrests, they were feeding on insects..
So I took lots of pictures of them, I had a bit of bother with focusing on them wae the long-lens, so I backed away from them and got these..

We have had Aurora Borelius every night this week, but only last night was clear to get a photo.. The rest o the time was cloudy and drizzly. I believe it was seen in Inverness area, but it was everywhere..

I'll be checking Ovation Aurora at tea-time if its getting closer [at the moment its off the north Russian coast]

Meantime this is the pictures I took last night..

This was about 8 o clock last night before the Aurora..

Venus & Jupitor..

Then the Aurora came..

I'll be checking the Ovation Aurora later on..

A massive solar flare in the sun has happend a few days ago..

So that means Aurora time again. unfortunatly the moon was giving off to light conditions, but I did get these.. [by the way the Aurora was down in Scotland last night] anyone else seen it ?

This last one was looking south.. Of course you don't see it south but I liked the photo..

In photo three there is a white line.. that white line is the Yell ferry timelapsed..

Animals / Risso's Dolphins. 5th.March 2012
« on: March 06, 2012, 07:47:52 am »
I heard that there was three Risso's at Catfirth, I heard late on Sun.the 4th.

The next morning I drove south to Catfirth, when I arrived I met with Austin Taylor.. He was just leaving..

So I set up my camera and long lens on my tripod..

The animals were swimming back and forward in front of me..

Two always kept close, but the other one kept its distance.. Then the one that kept its distance started to slapping its tail a few times
then threw itself clear of the water for about six times, I don't know if it was happy or showing off, but it was amazing watching it..

I used up all my space on my flash/card.. So I made my way home, then i remembered that I had my sony-nex with my 400mm lens attached, but by this time I was nearly home..

Photos of the Risso's..

Animals / Mountain Hare [winter coat]
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:35:26 am »
I was out again on the moor yesterday..

I spotted this Mountain hare up on the moor..

So I parked the car, got my camera and trecked up the hill into the moor, I was circling the Hare when I spotted another one only about 20 feet from me, I managed to get two pictures of it, one pic. was it trying to hide, the other one was after it stopped running..

The other pictures was of the other Hare. I'll show the first Hare first, then the other one..

Trying to hide..

After it ran, it stopped for a look..

The other Hare..

Last night we had an Aurora alert.. but drizzle & mist ruined it for me..

So instead I took a few pictures of the village..

I'll show two pics, taken with two different times. one picture [the darker one] had a time of 4 seconds. the other one had 6 seconds..

Birds / Re: Recent birds. R.B.Merganser and..
« on: February 27, 2012, 07:30:10 am »
Interesting day yesterday, It started with the Mountain Hare, I took two cameras and two tripods. I walked [stumbled] over the moor at an angle so as not to spook the Hare.
Set-up my cameras, and took many pictures of it.

I then left my long lens and went to my other camera [it had a 10-20mm lens, it was trained on my long lens..

Then it happened.. The wind blew my camera to the ground luckily for me it landed on spagnum moss..

Later on it started to mist up in the view-finder..

I then went to look for the R.L.Buzzard.. I found it on top of a pylon [power post] parked up my car and got my tripod out the boot..

I was attaching the camera to the tripod when I spotted the R.L.B. flying past me. I only got two keepable pictures of it..

Then it was home.. But on the way I spotted a R.B.Merganser, parked the car and took its picture, then I noticed a bird in the Houb of Laxobigging, it was a goldeneye. Got a couple of flight shots of it, then it was home..

Me and the tripod..

This was what I was after.. The Mountain Hare..

Rough Legged Buzzard..

Goldeneye..

And last.. The R.B.Merganser..
