Well, it wont be that long till we get out and see the whales again..
Living where I am, the village is an ideal place to watch out for whales.
Its situated along side Yell Sound, opposite Ulsta, on the Island of Yell..
This stretch of water gets many Pods of killers every year, they normally appear south of Bigga Isle opposite Ulsta..
But on occasions they hunt along the banks of my village, and what a thrilling feeling you get when you see them..
In the summer months I spend a lot of time looking for them... Last year a Humpback passed south, very close to the village, only a matter of two hundred feet from the shore, I did get a few shots of it with my camera, but the wind was so strong, it was causing camera shake, so please excuss the pics.
This Humpback was the one that got entangled the next day, by lobster pot lines.. It was trapped for a couple of days, then a creel boat went out and cut it free..
What I use ..
Camera & scope.
Distant shots of killers.
Feeding on fish. on a rip tide..
Killers in the sunset off the village pier..
Humpback whale.
Then some White sided Dolphins, this was at Weisdale Voe.
Backlit by the sun.
