Blogs.. put it in here..
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:18:48 pm »
Last night I made another album of my winter photos, to show you..

I put it on this morning, and also put it on a wildlife forum that i'm a member of..

Then I discovered you could'nt watch it.. I forgot to make it public, so its been changed so you can see it..

Then it was oot for a spell o whale watching, but did'nt spot any, only lots of seals..

So I went walkaboot, did'nt see a lot, just cormorants, shags, ravens, arctic skua, great skua, meadow pipits, black guillemots, one or two puffins, gannets and wheatears.. Then I spotted what at first was a cuckoo, I got out the binos, only to discover it was a male merlin, at a distance they look similar.. but to far away for a photo, it was fence walking.. What I mean, it kept flying from fence post to fence post, always keeping a distance from me.. This was on the graven road..

Then I seen a convoy of posh looking vehicles at the Total site.. probably high heed yins from Total..

Then it was off home to write this short blog..

Hi. All..

Yesterday I had to get out, two days in, is not good for anyone..

So, where to go..

Eshaness sounds good to me, on a lovely day like yesterday..

So I set off.. But first, I had to check Yell sound for whales.. [ nothing seen ]

As I past Garths voe, I saw a Heron feeding and a few Mergansers..

Next stop was at Brae, stocked up with provisions at the coop, then it was onward..

Next stop was Punds water, I stopped at the parking spot, and took my old camera, and left the car..

Then I took a few photos of the Loch.. the reason I used my old camera was, it means I don't have to change lenses..

The Loch..

Then I spotted what I thought might be an interesting photo, it was just the long grass at the side of the Loch..

Then it was onward..

Next stop was at the Twart Burn, there was a flock of Twites here, but they told me not to take their photo, strange we birds, I did'nt realise they could speak  ;D

The Burn..

Then it was time to get going, just before Zoar, another flock of Twites were all lined up on the fence..

I stopped, got out the car and your've guessed right, they all flew off, but I did get some photos of some wild-plants.. Sheeps Bit and Cats Ear..

Cats ear..

Cats ear & Sheeps Bit..

Then it was time for a bite to eat, so I stopped at Braewick cafe, and had a wee blether with Christina, finished eating and headed to the Lighthouse..

But first stopped at Breckon water, [ also called the Loch o the Gaet ]

Brecken Water..

Then I saw another large flock of Twites, at least 20 of them..

Then one of my sons drove up to me, he was going to Framgord Loch, at the lighthouse, we had a wee blether, then he had to go, this fishing bug is hard to beat..  ::)

Then it was back home again.. lots of photos to sort out, then to select the ones for this wee Blog..

Hope you enjoyed my day out.. I did ..

For photos I would prefer you to keep your photos to 800mm on the long side.. It would be nice if you make comments on what you like.. so far only two members have posted.. Don't be shy..

Well yesterday was such a nice day, so I decided to stay at home and sook in the warm weather oot in the garden..

I was up from 0430am, [ can't sleep very well at all ]

So I set up my recliner in da garden, then got facinated by a large spiders web, i was looking for the spider, but could'nt spot it at all..

Tracy, close your eyes in case you pass oot  ;D

So I moved closer to it..

I still could'nt spot it, it must have been away on its holidays.  ;D

Then I settled in to the recliner, lack o sleep wis catching up on me, but da droneing o da bees on the honeysuckle wis doing ma head in, then I thought, get yur camera oot da car geordie lad, cause every time I point it at something, they disappear..

Then it wis doon ta wan..  ::)

Then I had a wee bit peace and quiet, and fell asleep..

Next thing I knew wis a buzzing in ma ear, I thought at first wan o the wee buggers hud got in ma ears, but it wis just the phone inside the hoose ringing..

Its amazing whit good news does ta you.. it fairly wakes you up..

It wis a tip-off aboot the white sided dolphins at weisdale voe.. so it wis inta the car and a fast drive doon ta weisdale to see the critters.. mm.. not much room to show you them in the blog. but I'll show more on the photo bit, if dats ok wae you..

First I'll show some o da folk watching dem.. :o

So, what started as a quiet day at home, turned out to be a very interesting day for me..

I hope you all enjoyed your day as well as I did..  ::)

A tale of woes.

I run out of glossy 10x15cm paper for my photos..

So ordered more from Amazon, well it was one of Amazons suppliers..

I ordered them on the 1st. sept. they told me it was despatched on the 3rd sept.. and should get them by the 6th.sept..

Its now the 12th sept.

An email from them said.. It might be lost in transit..

I told them to replace it if I don't recieve it on monday, the 13th sept..

In the meantime, i thought i'd try the toon..

What a let down that was... I tried every photography shop in Lerwick.. out of luck ..sixty miles round trip for nothing..

And I really wanted to print out more photos for my album..

Like these..

Then my grandaughter popped in for a chat.. She wanted a couple of photos A4 size..

Then my son popped in.. he wanted a couple also, so he picked the ones he wanted, sunsets.. a good choice.. so I printed them out..

So i'll have to wait to see if my 10x15cm come on monday..

had harley and looshus at the vets harley took 5 mins and looshus we couldnt pick up till 2 so dropped harley at my mums and went to do our shopping  ::)
stuart realised his car tyres were kinds bald so he needed tyres and they couldnt do it till 2.30 so picked the cat up still groggy from anasthetic and me and him went to my mums beside harley while stu went back in to get his tyres  ::)
phoned the school to leave a message for ross asking him to go to grandad's if were not back (good old grandad lol)
got home and poor ross had a very sore head and ended up being sick with it after a tablet and a wee sleep he was fine  :-\
went to work and came home stu went to feed the fish and the tank was leaking  >:( disaster we dont have a spare 1 had to catch all the fish and transport then through to brae to stu's pals tank and empty the tank and mop up all the water it was pouring out by this point  :'(
finally got a cup of tea and 10:40 and forgot to have any dinner because i didnt have time (not good when your a diabetic but the packet of figrolls i ate with my cuppa helped  ::)  )

Ross came in to my bit, and told me about the headache, unfortunatly, i did'nt have any suitabile headache pills for him, he left when Scott came home from Brae skool..

Thats good, Stuart got his new tyres fitted, as there is snow forcast for quite soon..
were've already had sleet..

Great to see and read your blog, albiet it, your lack of food.  :o

And double pleased that you wrote it out, as its getting quite lonely in here, as no one else posts any comments etc.. apart from Benjismum..

I'm not sure where to go, I really need a south'westerly gale for Eshaness, for the waves to crash over the cliffs.. I might go as the cafe is open today, then i can get my lunch..

But i'll wait to see the forecast from Gulberwick weather station.. its really dark for photography.. I do have a setting on my camera to brighten things up a bit..

Well, it looks like da waxwings have passed till next year, very few berries left on the honeysuckle, although I did have a blackcap in my garden a few days ago..

I extended my bird perch by about four feet, that makes it about eight feet long now.

I made it out of some sycamore branches I cut from my tree..

Its only about eight feet from my window, I used my whitling knife to sharpen a few small branches so it could hold a few apples..

Today I decided to trim my overhanging honeysuckles branches, what a differance it makes.. the birds thought so too..

I had about twenty sparrows and twenty starlings on it and the slabs were baited with wild bird seed.

The beauty of it, is the cats will be seen approaching it, so the birds seem quite happy wae it, they are even getting used to me..

All I need now is a few migrants to join them.  ;D

Photos..

Till the next time..

When I took these photos this morning, I was standing next to the perch, and a sparrow & starling were feeding only a few feet from me..
So it seems to me that the birds are getting used to me, and don't see me as a threat.. ;D

I did modify this post this morning, after I took the photos..

Tuesday 10th february..
Dis is wan o my auld blogs aboot da otter, wae pics.

If your seen it, then ignore it. lol .

It was freezing cold last night.. minus 8 and in the morning it was -3.. and I wanted to go out and see if the otters were about.. so I decided I better get some warm clothing on.. so being an auld guy I thought I better wear my long johns, thought I heard someone giggle, its probably Lynne, just ignore her, he.he. then I put on my moleskin trousers, walking boots and gaiters, woollie hat, neck muffler, then my warm jacket, oh. nearly forgot, my fingerless gloves, then I went along the sea banks looking for the otters, I did'nt see any till I got to the holt, I was just looking back the way I had come, when I spotted it, and it spotted me, it was right in, almost almost touching the rocks, every time I raised my camera it would dive.. it was only about twenty feet below me.. so new tactics were needed, so I moved back from the bank and took up a new position, it worked, and I think I got my best pictures to date.. well chuffed.. here it is..
Dis wiz aboot twartree years ago..

Since then, i've taken a lot more pics o da otters. [better pics..]

I'll be showing some more auld blogs, of stories.. some o you huv read dem afore, some not..
