Yesterday..

It turned out to be a fine day, but windy.. So I thought I would watch out for Killer Whales in Yell sound..

For anyone who have seen these Whales close-up is the most exciting thing you can see..

They seem to favour the area south of Bigga Isle, unfortunatly its in the inter-ferry route between Ulsta and Toft, and the ferries quite often have to slow down or take detours around them, the pods seem to circle the Isles, so you don't see them very often, the summer months are the best time to watch for them..

So yesterday, I was keeping an eye out for them when I noticed an Otter feeding close in to the rocks, moving north, it was eating its catch of fish in the water, as they normally do, unless its a crab or a large fish, then they take them to shore and eat them there.. I once watched two Otters bringing an Octopuss ashore, it was nearly as big as the Otter, they seem to only eat the tendrills..

I followed the Otter along the shore for a bit, hoping it would come ashore, but I lost sight of it, and made my way back to my car..

Next I made my way to Mavis Grind, one of my sons told me that he had seen lots of Razorbills and Puffins there..

I have never seen Puffins there before..

Razorbill taken yesterday..

Puffin at Mavis Grind..

Then it was off in my car again, next stop was at Graven.. the burn gets runs of Sea-Trout and a few Salmon every year at the back end o the season. unfortunatly I had only my 500mm lens with me, so it was difficult to get close-up photos, but I did my best..

Graven Burn..

Tumbling water..

Then it was off home..

Yesterday was such a lovely day, I just had to get oot, but first, do you remember I moved my bird perch, well the sparrows seem to like it a lot. I took this pic from my lounge window..

Then it was off for a spell of whale watching from the village pier, after aboot an hour with no sightings I thought I would go to Mavis Grind and perhaps get one o the Puffins a bit closer..

But first I wanted to get a few pics o the fall in Valyre burn, the last time I tried [over a year ago] I fell about 15 feet down the gorge, only an Alder tree saved me from serious injury..

So I climbed down being very careful that I did'nt slip again.. And got these ..

Then it was time for the Puffins at Mavis Grind. Blast.. the were even further away, but a movement caught my eye in the sea.. It was an Otter feeding in the bay..

So I used my car window ledge with a cushion to rest my camera on.. and took these..

A thing I noticed in these Otter pics. was it used its paws a lot to hold the fish. something I've not been aware of before. Kind'a
like the American Sea Otter..

Then I headed up north to the Braewick cafe for a bite to eat.. excellent as usual ..

Then it was off back home, stopping for one last photo of Johnny Manns Loch and a self portrait of myself..

Johnny Manns Loch..

And yours truly.. me ..

I went to Brough rd yesterday, it has a good vantage point overlooking Yell Sound.. I was looking at the Sound for Killers, after a while with no sightings I made my way to Toft pier..

I met up with two tourists, they were looking for Otters, I showed them the Holt, then an other tourist showed up, he was also interested in Otters..

I was there about an hour, but no otters showed up..

I then spotted a Red throated diver still in its winter plumage ..

Next I took a pic. of an Arctic tern, the green background in the pic. is the field beyond it..

Then I thought the Shetland ponys in the field would make a nice pic..

Then I left for home..

Imo. the weekend tele is rubbish, so last night I went out wae my camera, initially to look for Killers, but this Otter I saw was feeding around a reef, some of its catch was eaten on the sea, one fish it caught was larger, so it took it onto the reef to eat it .. Its just a pity that the tourists, who were desperate for Otter pics. were'nt with me, light was'nt very good for taking pics.

Well, that wiz how my day went, I hope yours went well as well ..
